I leave in 2 days!

Yesterday my grandparents came over to say good-bye and they gave me this. They had gotten the fortune a few months ago and was saving it to give to me. It says, "Culture and customs of China attract you".

9 DAYS AWAY!!!

For the past two weeks, I have been reviewing my Chinese skills with Quizlets my teacher has sent me. Most of the words I know, but I've noticed that have forgotten a lot. I find myself struggling to picture the character in my mind, even though I know I have learned it before.

Today I went shopping for my trip. I bought some more clothes but also got all my gifts for my host family, teachers, and buddies.

I bought:
2 USA t-shirts
1 pack of Maryland playing cards
1 Redskins blanket
3 Washington DC/ Maryland magnets
1 Maryland football key chain
1 USA mug

I also started packing. My goal is to not over pack so I have tried to pack the minimum amount of clothes possible. Below is a picture of what I have packed so far.

I am packing: 1 t-shirts
4 V-neck shirts
3 nicer/dressy shirts
2 skirts
3 dresses
2 nicer (longer) shorts
2 athletic shorts
1 small rain jacket
Nike tennis shoes
shower flip flops
sandals
draw string bag (for laundry or as a day bag)
towel
small purse

Can't believe I'm leaving so soon!!

Wow, the start of my adventure is in only 18 days away! I cannot believe it. I have half scared and half excited. For those of you that do not know, this summer I will be spending 6 weeks in Xiamen, China with the NSLI-Y program (National Security Language Initiative for Youth). (For more information visit: http://www.nsliforyouth.com) The NSLI-Y program gives children my age the opportunity to study "critical languages" all around the world, including Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Russian, Persian, and more! It is such a great once in a lifetime opportunity, and I am so fortunate to be participating.

I know it will be hard to adapt to a new culture, but, no matter how hard it is to adapt to a new culture, I have no doubt that summer 2016 will be a summer to remember. I will meet so many new people, go to so many new places, and eat so many new things. Although I am terrified, I cannot wait to land in Xiamen China on July 2!
